Naha morning never ends
26″ x 20″ • 2021
Using five hand carved blocks from 1979, I have “recreated” Naha morning in a 2021 version. By adding three CNC routed blocks to the newly completed image, I have revised the sunrise in Naha, Okinawa. This process proved to be quite a technical challenge, as I had to register or match my computer drawn image to early hand carved blocks. I have never done this before in my 45 years of being a woodblock printmaker. The rainbow has disappeared and edges of vibrating light have emerged.
Naha Morning never ends
-like the rainbow-
It floats on the waves between all
the Islands of the Ryukyus
searching for signs of its breath
on the seas window
searching for a place to float
in all the voluptuous colors
of silence
creating itself again and again
and again
as I do.
