In 1745 the Espada Aqueduct was completed on Piedras Creek. Still in use today, this 15 mile network irrigated 3500 acres. Flood gates controlled water flow for irrigation, bathing, washing and powering mill wheels. It is the oldest Spanish Aqueduct in the U.S.
