This tannery is located in the heart of the Medina (the ancient city) in Fez, Morocco… and is still a major industry. Founded in 912 AD by Idriss II this ancient civilization uses tanned leather for water skins, quivers, scabbards and sandals. Tanning history dates back to 2500 BC to the Sumerians who used tanned leather on chariot wheels.
